Sky 8 still misbehaving

Yesterday I wrote about multiple problems. Restarting has not helped. Saving the file as another name and changing the font has not helped. Opening a new file and merging deleted all my settings and translation manager, so I just deleted that file.

I removed all the translations for Bible and Talmud references -- leaving them in a separate file for the source index -- and that has helped a tiny bit, as some of them were interfering, including with the name `Obayda. It now sorts on O after I made the accent grave in ignored text (Ctrl+K). But Sky wouldn't just ignore the accent grave, although it is in the list of ignored characters.

Diacritics and Translation Manager

The new addition to the Translation Manager (TM) still will not behave. Sky prints Salmōn as Salm/f"Times New Roman CE"ō/f""n. I deleted the translation I made yesterday and replaced it with a slightly different one ({o-} instead of {o_}), but it behaves the same way. (I copied the character into TM from Sky's Character Map, not from a text.) I saved the file by another name and changed the font to Tahoma -- both Tahoma and Times New Roman have the diacritics I want -- but it still won't just print out the character in the generated index. The other characters that I put into the TM ages ago work correctly.

In the Character Map, when I click on the triangle to pull down the menu of fonts, I see that Tahoma is preceded by a symbol that looks like an italic capital O. Times New Roman is preceded by a symbol that looks like TT. In the past both fonts have worked for me. I usually have Tahoma as the font within the program but print the index in TNR. I don't know if the CE (which Google says stands for Central European) at the end of the highlighted text above is the problem. CE does not appear in the list of fonts.

Notes

I still can't get the notes to appear as I want, and I don't see any missing boxes to check. I don't have the publisher's requirements yet, so this isn't a major deal right now, but I'd really like to the notes to appear as 9n.22 rather than 9n22.

Volumes and pages

I got this to behave!!! 🥳 I went to remove the volume, thinking I would just add it at the end. But Sky said I hadn't enabled it and that's why it was wonky yesterday. Now that I have checked the additional box to enable volumes, the page numbers increase with Alt+> as they should.

Can anyone see any possible reason for the TM not behaving? Or the notes? Or the ignored characters? Should I contact Kamm at this point?

Merci schön and happy indexing!

After restarting the computer again following an update, the notes now appear as I want them to. Hurray! But the other problems remain.

Hi Ælfwine,

I’m really glad to hear you got the volumes figured out, and that restarting again fixed the notes.  I have no idea why the translation manager is doing this….seems like a question for Kamm.

I got the translation to work! 🥳 I tried pasting in the Translation Manager from the Character Map set to Tahoma, the font currently used in the program. (I had been using Times New Roman.) For reasons that are a bit unclear to me, the character translated correctly into the generated index, which is in TNR, not Tahoma. I can't quite understand why it works, but it does.

Sky still won't ignore the accent grave at the beginning of an entry without my coding it (Ctrl+K), but as long as that works, I can live with it.

Hi Ælfwine,

Wouldn't a temporary solution be using a different character, which SKY
can ignore, instead of the accent grave? Then, after generating the
index, replace the other character with the accent grave.

That is a possible solution, Jochen, but given the size of this project (a few months of indexing), I prefer to be able to copy and paste quickly, then search for the character in Sky and replace it with ignored text. This book has a lot of unfamiliar content for me, so I'd rather copy as easily as I can.

Thanks for the suggestion.
