Waterbird survey on Friday, 8 May 2026.
Similar to last survey, with good variety of ducks and low numbers of gulls. Large numbers of Surf Scoters flying in and out, rafting up but no feeding frenzy - good indication of big feeding action not too far away.
Some Horned Grebes, an unidentified loon; plenty of Marbeled Murrelets and one Pigeon Guillemot.
727 Surf Scoters were by far the most abundant duck
130 Scaup sp.
104 American Wigeons were joined by 7 Eurasian Wigeons
6 Ring-necked Ducks
Gull counts in double digits, except for 130 Short-billed Gulls.
The only shorebirds were a couple of Wandering Tattlers and one Killdeer.
