If PSU's and Coast Guard take 10% of the Agniveer's retiring every 4 years than the bulk of Air Force and Navy Agniveer's will get absorbed in them.

Technical personnel from Army Agniveers can get absorbed in ordnance factory corporation and other PSU's

Of Course the main purpose of the Government is to save on Pension bill and ORF is a BJP think tank.

In case the operational requirements are not compromised, it might be beneficial for the country.

Hi Arora, My opinion on the subject which i had written in some other context.: -

After witnessing the decisive role of technology in modern day warfare during the first Gulf war, Chinese reduced the strength of PLA from 30 lakhs to 21 lakes and used the funds saved for its modernization. Similar reforms were long overdue in context of the Indian armed forces. Lack of political will, bureaucratic ineptitude, general public lethargy cum ignorance and politicization of every matter in public domain are responsible for the mess in which the Indian armed forces have been forced to operate. Agnipath scheme is going to pose a challenge to the concept of regimentation in the army and its consequent effects on its combat potentials. But this is a job that needs to be left to the professionals to handle. Against this background, the new recruitment scheme is a welcome initiative and needs to be given a chance to be tested on ground. The reactions to government's new scheme with respect to recruitment in our armed forces are expectedly and unfortunately on ideological lines. Similar fears were expressed immediately in the aftermath of WW II when millions were demobilized. This manpower went on to build a vibrant Europe. The new scheme also has the potential to provide a new set of ideological norms to the disillusioned and misdirected youth of this country. Basic values like discipline, punctuality, physical fitness, camaraderie, putting organization above self etc will get reinforced through this scheme. Most armies in the world require a war to change them. This proactive measure deserves all the support including public opinion so that it can strengthen the Indian armed forces.

The bottom line - We veterans should not really get into topics of this nature. This job is best left to the current generation of military leaders. We had our innings.
