First off - I realize this may not be an appropriate place to pose this question...it just shows how much I respect your thoughts/input.

Is anyone using the multicast paging functionality on the VVX phones?  For me, it works great on firmware 5.0.2 and below.  If I upgrade a phone past that, it can no longer send or receive multicast pages.

The config files are being generated out of Uniteme 17.04.2017.

Here is the log info from the phone attempting to send the page:

Hi Nathaniel,

Our production system is on 17.10 and have two phones in a paging group - one at 5.9.2 and a second at 5.5.2. Paging works without issue for me. The phones are using this custom configuration:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?>
<sip>
  <feature
    feature.enhancedFeatureKeys.enabled="1"
        feature.directory.enabled="1"
      />
  <softkey
     softkey.feature.donotdisturb="0"
     softkey.feature.directories="0"
     softkey.feature.newcall="1"
     softkey.feature.forward="0"
     />
<up
     up.screenCapture.enabled="1"
     up.useDirectoryNames="1"
     />
<capture
     diags.pcap.enabled="1"
     diags.pcap.remote.enabled="1"
     diags.pcap.remote.password="xxxxx"
     />

I think we are talking about two different things. The built in paging groups have a limit on how many phones you can successfully send to at a time (I think things get weird around 20). As such, I'm leveraging the multicast functionality built in to the polycom phones themselves (vs. setting up paging groups in software).  These are manged in sipxcom under a phone ->Push to talk and paging groups.

So I'm trying to determine if anyone is successfully using the multicast paging on newer polycom firmware?  If so, can I get a peek at your polycom phone configuration to see if I need to manage the multicast paging as a custom configuration vs. using the built-in configuration option.

Okay understood, I did some quick tests and get similar results to yourself - paging works on 4.1.7 but not on 5.5.2 or 5.9.2. Noticed that one paging parameter was default set for expansion modules https://documents.polycom.com/bundle/ucs-ag-5-8/page/r-ucs-ag-smart-paging-parameters.html - turned that parameter off but received same results. Put debug levels on the phone originating the page request and got a little more info from the diagnostic log.

Old topic I know, but anybody had any luck with this?

I'm trying to get Multicast paging working on VVX 450s on firmware 5.9.6.2996 (for similar reasons..paging group seem to not work consistently with 20+ lines) and having the same issue (with similar logs). Didn't see anything on my switch that should be blocking multicast traffic.

Was thinking of trying a firmware update to see if it helps but figured I'd see if there was ever a fix for this or if it's a firmware thing.

I’ve not revisited (or gotten any useful feedback from Poly). I believe it’s a firmware bug that simply isn’t on their radar. I would also be interested in a solution and would be happy to help do some testing/brainstorming.

Thanks for the response!

Going by that thread it seems like someone put in a request to Poly about it (there are some escalation numbers in the thread), but I'd have no idea how to check on that to see if it's been fixed since. The problem is that newer VVXs ship with firmware 6.4.3 and can't be downgraded, so all I can think of is to try the newest (6.4.5) and see if it makes a difference - I'll update if so.

Personally, I let my Poly certs lapse and only sell used Poly.  So many companies by them for their cloud aps, and toss them they aren't happy, that there are tons on the market at 1/3 or less the cost.  I can sell them for less than my wholesale price and make a better profit.  This should get you phones that run a lower firmware.

So, as an update on this, I actually WAS able to get this to work by upgrading to the newest firmware. Apparently it was fixed only recently in 6.4.3 I, which only came out in March of this year.

Better late than never I guess - anyway after upgrading all the way to 6.4.5 I was able to get this to work. Doesn't work at all on the factory firmware though, so beware.

That is beyond amazing news! We had planned on using this as part of a mass notification system during an emergency. I was getting ready to scrap this implementation. Thanks for updating the group!
