Hi Robin,

today is the anniversary of when Once Upon A Time was released and that is not a coincidence as that album is the one DOTH has most in common with - both DOTH and OUAT are made to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. There is no mystery to DOTH. the remit to make a positive sounding album seems to have been the paramount concern.

That said, I was fearful having heard some of the snippets from the promo video, and while my expectations were low, I was pleasantly surprised by the album. Because of the lack of adventure there are no standout tracks like Dolphins or Blindfolded but there is a consistency of tracks from the start. I think Solstice Kiss might become a favourite over time.  The quality definitely drifts towards the end of the record. The deluxe version certainly. I don't mind that Ged wrote some of the tracks as ever since Cry, SM have always reached outside the band for fresh ideas.

Give it some time and try the album again. The sadness might be because of the direction of the country you are living in right now! :)

I was wondering myself. Hopefully Simon is doing ok and the lack of updates
is that he is busy with other aspects of his life.

Dream giver was one the very first websites I ever explored on my first
experience with the internet back in 1995. I was astonished to see such an
informative and detailed site to Simple Minds who were beginning to be
ignored by media at that time.

How about that new album?

I'm so very disappointed. It's shit.

Really shit.

In my eyes they haven't put a foot wrong since the release of B&W050505.

Until now.

This may beat Cry & Neon Lights to be the worst album. It even makes Our
Secrets and Neapolis seem good.

If this was the follow up to Jim's solo album, it would be a
disappointment. As the first Minds album in four years it's a travesty.

Two songs written by Ged, a cover, a couple of recycled unfinished songs.
It shows.

The production is horrible. It sounds like a really dated remix album by
some 90's DJ.

I'm so very sad.

Robin.

I've listened to it about six times now.

It's growing a little. I like First You Jump. That's about it. Vision Thing is so generic Take That wouldn't even put it on an album.

Solstice Kiss I just can't stand. The intro is like they're trying to remind the audience about Belfast Child. The cheesy pan pipes thing? Not a fan.

I hate the cover. The la, la, la la one. I don't think it has anything in common with OUAT. Every song on that album is solid. Making a feel good pop album is fine. But it doesn't make me feel good. It's just filler all the way I think. Human Traffic is quite annoying. I don't think I've reacted this negatively to an album since Neapolis. Though that has three great songs on.

I'll persist. But the production still sounds a mess to me. On SFY they made drum machines sound like real drums. On this they've made real drums sound like a shitty 90's drum machine.

It's fine though and maybe it will continue to grow on me. But I do think after the last four studio albums this is just lame.

Robin.

It’s not great.
The first 2 we’ve all heard, so no need for a critique.
Quite like Human Traffic but why get Russel Mael in and not give him a verse of his own?
The next 2 are ok. Not awful, not great though
Act of love I like but why’s it on the album?
Was great as a 40 year anniversary thing but surely they’ve got better knocking about?
Natural, again it’s ok. Planet zero been knocking about for years, this version, again, it’s ok.
Walls come down is quite possibly the worst thing they’ve ever done.
Fucken hate it.
Direction is ok, I liked the original release, don’t see what’s so different about this version to justify its inclusion.
Wonder times is probably me favourite so just shows what I know!
I agree on the production, it’s all too busy, no space .
But… I’ve listened a couple of times and I think it’s growing in me.
Who know?
