Common sense right now...
See what the Trout Fire is going to do. I see the evacuation maps are now including Hanover.
Hopeful.

Canceled. Maybe in July.

According to the Fire Watch map, the Trout Fire is now in Cameron Creek heading to the Big Tree.

One of the guys overseeing the firefighting effort told me it was a mosaic fire - good and bad burning, but plenty of good burning. So much of what the fire has swept through was overgrown, as much as I hate to see anything burn. So there's some silver lining here. Let's hope the burning around the BT is the good stuff. If so, it'll actually be healthy for that area in the long run.

Mosaic burn is good to hear. Hopefully lots of lower intensity that is just knocking back the brush and grass. Thanks for sharing this.

Dan - Thanks for this map! I watched last night's operations update using this map but could zoom in enough to really see the legend.

Dan, I agree. From the limited photos I've seen of the fire, it'll be good for the forest in the long-term.

I'm guessing the bad fire was the stuff just north of Signal Peak. There was some glorious forest there. Old growth. But even then I remember thinking that it needed a fire. It was seriously overgrown. Still heartbreaking.

It helps that the Big Tree is in side of an older RX burn area. That said, they are very aware of the run the fire made down Cameron creek. They have significant air resources working between Black peak and Cameron creek at the moment ( 3x CH-54, 2x AT-208 Air Tractor, and 1x MD-87). With the winds from the SE/SSE we should see an increase in humidity, hopefully they can finally stabilize the line from Signal Peak around past Black and Cameron Creek.

Are you saying the Big tree has burned? The current fire perimeter doesn’t look like it’s within about 2 miles up Cameron creek from where the big tree is located. Unless I’m misreading the map. Can someone verify?

The USFS fire update for today says they are prepping the big tree as a protected asset and working on the fire lines south of it on the game preserve, getting ready if the fire moves south. It looks like the fire line is basically the northernmost roads on the game preserve.

Apparently the prep is done and the tree is relatively safe, accd to today’s update.

Since we are talking about trees, I will put out that Broccoli tree is singed but appears to have survived. It was right in the path of the fire on day one.
