Houda Bouamor, our dedicated SIGARAB Secretary and my dear friend and colleague,  is running for Member-at-Large at ACL.

Houda has been a tireless leader for Arabic NLP and other underrepresented languages: building essential resources, mentoring early-career researchers, and ensuring that SIGs like ours have a stronger voice within ACL. 

If you’re a current ACL member, you should have received an email titled “ACL 2025 Elections – Please Vote.” Please check your inbox (and spam folder!) and cast your vote for Houda Bouamor.

Sorry for seeing this late, but I would second everything said about Houda below.

I would just add to it, please when voting for someone, consider the person who will be able to take responsibility and face pressure in our community. Some of you might remember the embarrassment our community faced a couple of years ago when some papers have misused the “Ethics” section in EMNLP 2023, and we found the ACL Exec Committee was very slow in taking action, which led to over a year and half to resolve the issue!

Thus, please when voting for those positions, be sure to vote to the person who would be able to stand up when ethics are violated with no fear or bias. For me, I am sure that Houda is one of those people.
