Dear Members of the SIG,

Together with Prof. Zhongfeng Tian, we would like to take this opportunity to introduce the newly established Translanguaging + AI Lab, which is affiliated with the Special Interest Group for Translanguaging and Inclusive Education under the Centre for Advancement in Inclusive and Special Education (CAISE) at the Faculty of Education, The University of Hong Kong (HKU).

The Lab is co-chaired by myself (Prof. Kevin W. H. Tai) and Prof. Zhongfeng Tian (Rutgers University–Newark, USA), and it involves other Core Members, including Ms. Karen Choi (PhD Candidate), Ms. Xinyi Wang (PhD Candidate), Ms. Icey Wu (Research Assistant 1) and Dr. Yiyang Li (Postdoctoral Fellow). A total of 8 world-leading scholars were invited as Members of the Panel of Experts

This Lab is dedicated to advancing research and practice at the intersection of translanguaging and Generative AI. The Lab promotes inclusive, creative, and sustainable language education by fostering collaboration among researchers, educators, and students, supporting knowledge exchange and pedagogical innovation, and offering seminars and workshops that explore how learners’ full linguistic repertoires can be meaningfully integrated with AI to enhance equity, agency, and learning.

We will introduce the Lab's website on the 12th of May 2026 during Prof. Zhongfeng Tian's talk on translanguaging and AI at HKU (https://web.edu.hku.hk/event/detail-page/translanguaging-ai-designing-inclusive-and-sustainable-language-learning) and on the 18th of May 2026 during my book launch at the HKU Faculty of Education (https://web.edu.hku.hk/event/detail-page/book-launch-event-translanguaging-in-classroom-discourse-cambridge-university-press).

Here's the Translanguaging + AI Lab's Website: https://translanguagingailabhku.wordpress.com/
