Dear all,
Tomorrow, across the country, we are coming together to use our First Amendment right by rallying against Donald Trump’s authoritarian overreach. Trump is steamrolling over our national parks and public lands. He is trying to pollute our clean air and water. He is endangering our lives with his pro-polluter agenda. And he is attempting to toss aside our civil liberties.
But in America, there are no kings.
As you prepare to gather tomorrow, we write to share that
we have been informed by credible sources that there exists a possibility of violence against protesters at certain No King’s Day Protests. If you attend, please use your personal judgment to keep yourself safe and refer to the guidance Sierra Club has already provided. Here is the link to the
Sierra Club Mobilization Guide.
In addition, please:
- Stay informed about specific threats and their credibility through reliable sources
- Refrain from drawing attention to yourself
- Follow instructions of protest organizers who understand crowd dynamics and safety protocols
- Share your location and expected return with trusted contacts
- Prepare emergency contact information and consider a communication plan if cell towers are overloaded
- Consider protective eyewear in the event chemical irritants are used by law enforcement
- You may consider bringing water and a small first aid kit
- Stay aware of your surroundings and identify exit routes
- Watch for signs of escalating tension and be prepared to leave immediately in the event of violence
- Avoid engaging with police or other law enforcement or military personnel
Stay safe and have a great weekend.
Best regards,
Gina Kim
