Hello,

One of the things you can do with it is add a geojson layer to a leaflet map use the "map layers" control in the lower left. Locally this works fine. On shinyapps, it will load the "Ecoregions" and the "Forested Area layers correctly, but it crashes on the "Soil Map".
The soil map has more polygons than the other two - is this a limit of doing things over the web or do I need to change the app size on shiny.

Thanks

JP

John,

What browser are you using?
I have been experimenting with similar issue on different applications, and the possibility that this is a browser connection issue. I just tried your app on Chrome and Firefox. With Chrome I get the crash every time when I select "Soil Map", but I couldn't reproduce the crash using Firefox. So wondering what your experience has been.

Best,
Fereshteh

Fereshteh,
I was checking on Chrome, IE and Opera - I did not check this issue on Firefox. I will look in to it tomorrow and get back to you.

Thanks

Fereshteh,
I just checked again with Opera, IE, Firefox and Chrome - but now all of the maps are crashing. I will check again later

As a follow up,
I have not been able to get Opera, Firefox, IE10 or Chrome to display the soil map, although they all work when the app is run locally.  The last few days I have been having issuers viewing an map from shinyApps, but that may be due to the load balancing issues you are experiencing.

Another follow up
Yesterday evening (~7pm Eastern US) I was able to get the soil map to display correctly in Opera, but today it does not seem to work in any browser, but the other maps do. I cannot see any pattern on my end as to when it works or it doesn't - my only guess is it has to do with server load on your end. Also, the other two maps are smaller - fewer polygons, fewer points, so my guess if files size plays a role as well.

Thanks

John Paul

Something odd happens with your app.  I know I have seen it break, and I know I have had times when I just can't break it.  We will need to somehow find the smoking gun here.  I don't think it is a load issue on the server, but the only way to find out what is going on is to be able to catch it in the act.

Tareef, Fereshteh,
I have continued to work on testing this app and may have made some progress. The issue does not relate to the browser or other software issues. I have a coworker who tries to load the "Soil Map" at work  on her laptop and it always crashes. If she takes the laptop home and logs in via our vpn (so the same security settings) it always works fine. We think the issue is how much bandwidth is available. I different coworker did the same experiment and got the same results. However, he then started a large download and while that was going the soil map would crash, when the download was done it worked fine.

I guess my expectation was that if a use had low bandwidth available the site would be slow, but not necessarily crash. Is that realistic?

I'll let you know if I find out anything else,

Thanks

John Paul
