Hi,

I'm consistently getting the following error when deploying the app, and it's not clear to me what the problem is because the app runs without any problems locally. Details are below; any help is appreciated!

> deployApp()

Jin Rou,

Several other users have reported this problem. Does this error happen every time you call deployApp() or the error intermittent?

Thanks

-Andy

Hi Andy,

The last time I updated my app a few weeks ago, I got that error a few times but then managed to successfully deploy my app. This time round, I've called deployApp() at least 5 times and had that error each time.

Regards,
Jin Rou

That error might be WSAECONNABORTED. Any chance you're running a network security suite, like Kaspersky, ESET, or Panda? If so, maybe try disabling it temporarily and see if that makes a difference?

Hi Joe,

I disabled my McAfee and Trend Micro Security Scan programs but still got the same error; however deploying it on another computer worked, though it's not clear to me where the problem lies!

Hi Joe,

Ok, I take that back, trying to deploy the app again on that other computer but now it gives the same error. I have TrendMicro OfficeScan running and can't disable it because I'm using a work computer. It was running the last time too when the app deployment worked. Not clear where the problem is!

Hi Joe,

I pared down my app folder size to 51mb and the issue seems to be resolved, so it seems to me like the error is because the ShinyApps server rejected my connection due to an overly-large app size? I had the impression that the max app size is 100mb though, yet when I add a 20mb file to my folder, I get the same error again.

Also, a suggestion: Output a warning for the user if the total app size is more than the limit of 100mb?

Thanks!

You are correct the limit should be 100MB. I think I may know what is going on here. When the upload fails, about how long does it take for it to fail. (e.g. how long from when you start the upload until you get the error? 30 seconds? 1 minute? 5 minutes?)

Hi Andy,

Just tried uploading my app (86mb total) and the upload fails about 5min in.

(One more suggestion: any possibility of having some folders/files in the app folder be ignored for the upload (e.g. git folder), maybe using something like a gitignore file?)

Thanks!

Hi Chad,

Was waiting for a response before trying to deploy the app again, but just tried and it seems to work successfully for now, so I'm guessing something was fixed? I'll update if I run into any more problems.

Related to this, two small suggestions:
- Output a warning for the user if the total app size is more than the limit of 100mb?
- Have some folders/files in the app folder be ignored for the upload (e.g. git folder), maybe using something like a gitignore file?

Thanks!
