Hello,
I met with Plumb Memorial Library staff Joan Stokes, Library Director, and Maura Gaultiere, Children’s Librarian, to discuss anti-littering books to add to the library collection. They were very receptive to adding additional books to their catalog to better address the littering problem in our community. I have attached the list of books that Maura and I came up with; Joan and Maura thought the best way to acquire these books is if the Anti-Littering Committee bought the books and then donated these to Plumb Library. All recommended books are available on Amazon. I am hoping we could use the “nip” fund to purchase these books which total $217.30. What is the process for getting this approved and funded?
We also discussed creating an anti-littering display in the Children’s book area around the time of Earth Day, in April of this year. Maura is reaching out to a professor in Hartford to see if she would be available to help with this display.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone in a couple of weeks.
Best,
Kathy
Great work! Thank you!! The easiest way to do this, if everyone agrees, would be for me to purchase them on Amazon using my Prime account, then I would put in for reimbursement with the money coming out of the Litter Committee’s annual budget. I do a lot of purchases for Trails and the Community Gardens this way. I just want to first get an update on the Litter Committee’s budget. As far as I know, it is still $2000 a year, but they have not been giving me updates. We use that for the Clean Sweep patches, trash bags, gloves, signs for Adopt-a-Street, and safety vests. The fiscal year runs July 1-June 30. For this year, I have expenditures of $334.09 for bags & gloves and $471 for the patches. I don’t know if there has been anything for signage, but we are well within our budge assuming it’s still $2000 per year. I’ll check with the Accounting Dept.

Update: The Director of Finance tells me our annual budget is $3,000. I went ahead and ordered the books. There were three I held off on until our next meeting because they are about recycling, not litter. -T
