I’ve mapped out an area of Ramps, aka Wild Leeks, near the Dog Park where Constitution Blvd West is slated to go through (attached). If you’re not familiar, Ramps have become a very popular food and wild foraging item. I’ve transplanted some from this area over the years and also collected the seeds and scattered those, with good results. There are also some ferns. It would be nice to rescue/transplant as much as possible in areas where the road will definitely be going through. The leeks will soon go dormant and disappear, which is why I mapped them now. Later in the season, flower stalks will come out of the dirt with no leaves visible, and soon the seeds can be collected.

There is a Constitution Blvd West concept plan showing how the road layout would work, with the end of Nells Rock Road converted to Constitution Blvd, and a section of Nells Rock Road moved so that it comes to a “T” with Constitution Blvd before the Dog Park. You never know how long something like this will take to get built, but my sense is that if funding becomes available, it could go pretty quickly.  Site disturbances like clearing and surveying may be done in advance. My best guess is 2-5 years.

I put out feelers with the Olde Ripton Garden Club and Earthtones to see if they have any interest. I wouldn’t recommend these ramps for consumption because they are near an old road where there may be lead contamination. If the Commission meets holds a May meeting at the Trails Barn, we have the option to walk across the street to see the area. I plan on delineating the open space from the road ROW, since the ROW is the area with the greatest odds of impact. -Teresa

I've seen the map of "T" intersection for ConstBlvdN into Nells Rock a long time ago.  Given the progress on the intersection from BptAve - I don't see it happening in my lifetime, but good to recognize it.  Is this the type of thing that could relocate to Eklund Garden?

I did relocate some ramps to Eklund years ago, but the soil conditions weren’t quite right and they never really took off. For transplanting/seeding, I’m finding the best locations are just uphill from skunk cabbage in rich soil. We have that on our own property and I scattered seeds years ago. Got lots of Ramps now.
