All,

I have a friend writing an article for soaring regarding ways that glider performance has influenced the design of modern airliners.

His name is John Joss, a re-known author of both soaring and broad aviation topics.

He would like to talk with someone that could help him with accurate information regarding the 787 design.

If any of you know someone, or an introduce someone to John, he would greatly appreciate it.

Please contact me at my gmail account, cirruscfi

Thanks,

Mike Bamberg

I think Jim Dingas flys the 787
I flew the A350 (although 4years ago).

Interesting topic. I think the bigger driver is the evolution of computational tools and not so much that modern glider design influenced the 787 or vice versa. If he wants to pursue the topic along those lines, PM me and I can provide you with the name of an industry expert that might help.

Mike,

Need any help on a 767 let me know. Don’t know anything about a 787 other than they’re all electric but have no circuit breakers in the cockpit.

I was involved with the 787 development, but that was 20 years ago. I was in Customer Service attempting to influence the design to be more maintenance friendly concentrating in propulsion structures. I can tell you that the wing design is has a higher aspect ratio for lower drag and is only feasible using composite structure. Kevin Finke was an aerodynamicist on the program also working in the propulsion area. He may have some insight into the overall aerodynamics of the airplane.
