The bike lanes on Castro Valley Blvd are great!  Several of our RUSA permanent routes use this stretch of road.   But now the issue at stake is a proposal to remove the bike lanes. See link below.  Please sign and share the petition.
Cheers—

That stretch of road connects Palomares Rd to Redwood Rd. Definitely an important bike connector. It's also used on the East Bay SR600 route.

I think it's on at least 2 of my permanents.
Biking that section is already quite unpleasant, I can't imagine what it would feel like without a bike lane 😞

signed and sharing with my local bike advocacy groups. It would be terrible to lose those bike lanes.

Thanks so much to all who signed the petition to keep Castro Valley's bike lanes! From the organizers:

We did it! Thanks to you, the Castro Valley MAC backed down last night, and did not recommend removal of the bike lanes at this point. Instead, they voted unanimously 5–0 to recommend to Alameda Public Works to work with local businesses on parking impacts and report back with alternatives.  In public comment, 27 out of 29 people strongly supported keeping the bike lanes, and not a single business owner showed up to complain about the loss of their parking. As of today, our petition has garnered over 530 signatures.

The Public Works Director strongly defended the present bike lane configuration as "the compromise" between cycling safety and business parking. He raised safety and liability concerns with removal of the bike lanes. He suggested that we should continue with the present configuration and use the bike counts as a baseline for future bike counts. His support dramatically reduces the chances that the bike lanes will be removed. Although this topic might appear at another MAC or BOS meeting in the future, we are encouraged that they will remember the strong public support for these lanes that you helped us demonstrate.

Again, thanks for your efforts in helping to make Castro Valley more livable and enjoyable for all!
