First
off, thank you to those who have contacted me and followed-up with
questions about the ride. Please understand that Santa Rosa is a small
region, and we have minimal volunteer support. Also, the RBA himself is
trying to complete his qualifying rides to participate in PBP this
autumn.
I (we) thank you for your patience.
I am still working up the rider information document to provide you all information for the upcoming 600k next Saturday.
I
am writing today to bring your attention to one crucial detail: whereas
it is known that this route has 3.8 miles of gravel, there are several water crossings.
Please see the attached photo (first attachment) for an example (NB:
these are *expected* conditions; if it rains, all bets are off). If this
is a non-starter for you, that is not a problem from our end: please
just reply and let me know that you no longer wish to attempt this
brevet.
This image highlights two details:
- The crossing is short, especially at the right side. The water is also quite shallow maybe 6" deep maximum.
- You
can also see the state of the gravel road. It is quite smooth in most
places, but does have some short areas along the edge where gravel can
accumulate (as is typical for gravel roads)
PLEASE NOTE:
