I am looking for a place to get a bike fit to make adjustments to my current bike and possibly purchase a new one. I would appreciate your recommendations. I live on the Peninsula (Menlo Park) and will drive up to ~ an hour.  Thank you!

If you haven't already, and for folks that don't know, you can also search the mailing list to see previous discussions on bike fit and other topics:

Good luck,

I just had a fit with Chris Norris at Bicycle Outfitters in Los Altos.  I was impressed with him and was happy with the fit.  He is a no nonsense kind of guy and very efficient.  I am going to take my wife to him for her bike fit and once I get my new bike, he said he would be happy to dial it in.  Just call the store (65--948-8092) and they can help you schedule an appointment.

Every time someone asks a question about a bike fit, you ask them to search historic postings. You have done this a few times. Why? The purpose of this forum is to facilitate bike related conversations and relationships. Especially since the search function on google groups is worthless.
Bike fitters come and go. I am interested in riders opinions on this topic. Please don’t discourage people from participating.
Thank you.

Vlad,

I think your response to Eric Walstad's suggestion is a bit harsh.  While it may be true that some of the threads in a search within a group are a bit dated, in this case it still has some recent info for people to consider.  Personally, I think what Eric is saying is that there is a function that some in our group may not know about, and that it is a tool that may answer some questions.  I don't see how what Eric suggests discourages people from participating in the Google group.

I do agree with you, however, that it is good to get more of the many people in this SFR group to participate, and, frankly, this group isn't nearly as active as it used to be.  I'd like to see a more active SFR Google group.

My suggestion to all is to use the search function when you have a question to see if it has been addressed previously, as you may find answers more quickly, but, after doing so, if you seek more info, by all means, ask away!  This group, in my experience, is very knowledgeable, and supportive of its participants.  Frankly, it's one of the reasons I joined SFR, even though I don't live in the bay area.

Vlad,

I found Eric's post to be quite helpful, and also very even toned, lacking in any opprobrium, and certainly not discouraging anyone from further discussion on this and/or any other topic. I'm not at all sure that it was a post that deserved to be called out in this way.

Anne-French,
To educate yourself when picking a fitter, there are many levels of evaluation. Here is one example that Mike's Bikes offers. I got a Level 2 after buying a new bike and it served me well for the Hokkaido 1200. No pain anywhere. All of our fitters go through a certification process and will travel to your nearest store, Palo Alto.

Good luck,
colin

I have been going to Allen at clubhouse velo for quite a while and he does excellent fits.  You can see his process on YouTube as well.

Rob,
I disagree with you.  The best way to advertise capability of a platform such as google groups is in a routine reminder to the membership.
When this reminder appears in conjunction with a question that was asked,  the  message of the “go search the archives” is unmistakable.

Even is the search capability was functional (which is not) it still sends a negative message
