Somewhat advanced-notice on this: I have a trip coming up February 24-28. Turns out that this is the same week as the RSA conference at Moscone, and I may be obliged to stay in Emeryville at least some nights of the trip. Sounds like a perfect excuse to do an extended commute via the new-to-me Richmond-San Rafael bridge bike path!

https://goo.gl/maps/m95seFMCqE4EfsKb7 pegs it at 39.4 miles. Could be extended slightly by riding Camino Alto from the back side; or extended more via Paradise Drive (at least out as far as Trestle Glen.) :)

I'm thinking I'd be pretty definite to do this the morning of Wed 2/26, possible for Thurs 2/27 as well.

Feel free to reply here to express preliminary interest. I could time the rollout to match the first train that stops at, say, North Berkeley or El Cerrito BART, or if you have some place to crash in the East Bay the night before so much the better.

I'll bump the thread when it gets closer. Thanks!

(To be clear, the reason for staying somewhere in the East Bay is lack of affordable hotels in SF due to said RSA conference. But I can make a lot of lemonade from a small amount of lemon here. :) )

I’m potentially interested in the Weds option!

Bumping the thread, as we are closer. And I'm also going to be on PTO next week and around computers less.

SO! I'll actually be staying in SF, but still looking to do this ride on the Wednesday morning.

How about let's take the 2nd- or 3rd-earliest BART itinerary that'll get us to Richmond, then ride from there? 2nd earliest would be the BART train that leaves 5:42 AM from Embarcadero (or commensurately earlier from elsewhere in the city), itinerary arrives Richmond at 6:17. 3rd-earliest is 5:57 AM -> 6:32 AM. Later trains leave 15 minutes thereafter. Sunrise is 6:55 AM.

I am generally inclined to leave earlier rather than later, but could *maybe* be persuaded to do the 6:12 train departure. Thanks!

I'm a maybe. I've done the commute in from Berkeley twice. It's a good one.

Cool, thanks! If you end up being a substantial part of the contingent, btw, I'm also opening to getting off the train earlier (say, at North Berkeley.) Thanks!

Bumping again! At this point I think I'll be on that 5:42 AM train from Embarcadero, and meeting Bret at North Berkeley at 6:07 AM. (I was looking around for a good coffee place in Berkeley or Albany or whatnot that opens that early, but the good ones all seem to open at 7.)

Holler at me if you want to join from SF, and if you might like to get the 5:57-from-Embarcadero train instead (that this would be the difference maker for you.)

Note that the bridge path will be closing to facilitate Caltrans maintenance at 9 AM, so I don't want to come close to flirting with being on the bridge that late. Also have stuff to do in the office by that time of the morning anyway. :) Thanks!
