Just went to http://sf2g.com and my browser complained that the certificate expired on 7/4/2020... can someone fix this? Not a big deal of course but might discourage people from visiting the site.

Anyone still interested in updating the web hosting to be more automated?

We have https://github.com/sf2g/sf2g, it would be pretty easy to turn this into an automated deployment.

That repo looks like it is already automatically deployed by Github Pages, if the CNAME file was changed to sf2g.com and the DNS records were pointed at GitHub I think that's all that would need to happen. They take care of the SSL certs automatically.

Indeed, the only changes required would be to change sf2g.com's DNS records and the CNAME file (which can actually be done from github UI). (It's currently/still deployed to sf2g.trustytrungs.net; sf2g.trustytrungs.net is just a CNAME record pointing to sf2g.github.io, but obviously I'm not attached to that.)

I've had good luck with letsencrypt.org/ and it has certificate auto-renewal cronjob tools. For free.

It’s that time of year again… cert expired on Jul 4.

+1 for letsencrypt.  set it and forget it.

I still haven't gotten access to the service account to work on this stuff. :-(

fixed. the server is hosted by mediatemple and I just had to login to the ui and push a button. just took awhile to find it.

Ben, you have ssh access to the virtual host don't you? is that sufficient?
