I traveled from Oregon back to the Bay Area a few weeks ago. After leaving Fall River Mills I encountered major highway work with a sign saying up to a 90 minute delay. Luckily, I only had a 20 minute or so wait. I just thought I’d give a heads up to people traveling to GSSP. Oh! Now that I actually read the notice I see it says Monday - Thursday so GSSP travelers should be ok. Anyway, I hope you have a great time.

Richard

Pit One Grade Rockfall Mitigation: Located west of Fall River Mills in Shasta County. Crews are performing boulder removal and rockfall protection. Motorists should plan for significant delays reaching up to 90 minutes from 5:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with up to 13-minute delays outside active excavation times. This project is expected to be completed by November 2026. [123]

Yesterday I received an email from GSSP titled "GSSP Road Conditions through Fall River".

It gave good detail of how to bypass the road construction.

I live in Fall River...
The delays on 299 are only "up to 30 minutes" M-F 6-6.   Most of the time its 10 min or less.  The go around route is longer than 20 minutes and can be dangerous with all high speed traffic using Cassel Rd as a detour.
Transparency is excellent all week with poor seeing until after midnight.  Unfortunately Sat and Sunday might be cloudy.

That's enough to sell me. Do you have any idea how the Big Valley Days event will effect the traffic for Saturday and Sunday?

Big Valley Days should not affect traffic at all coming E299.   However, there is a fire happening in the area. It is the 3-1 Fire  It was 800+ acres at 11pm Tues.  Lots of air assault teams and should be out soon.  No update from Watch duty this morning.
Lots of smoke lingering.  But I no longer see the main plume.

The detour must be better. I'm currently at the road work and we've been waiting over an hour as we speak. For others I suggest following the email sent by GSSP.

We were in that same line.

From what I read though it is Monday to Thursday. Worth verifying though.

We sent a note on this. Currently the delay is 15 minutes. Cassel road is a viable bypass.

I got stuck at the light at about 12:15AM, first in line. Got a green light in about 6 minutes. The boys of driving when everyone else is asleep (or observing)
