We recently received a nice donation of several components for an 8" DIY dob, including mirrors, Crayford focuser, truss tubes, a big bag of misc parts, and some useful-looking books. Let me know if you're interested in building and owning your own custom-built dob.

Howdy Jim,

I’m interested, can you tell me more about what’s included?  Maybe I could build it and donate it to the club as a loner.  Sounds like a fun project.

4 x 75” truss tubes, focuser, well-packaged primary and secondary mirrors, and a bag of parts I can’t describe.  See photo for EXAMPLES of what’s in the bag off camera.   Plus many books on how-to and design theory.  I could drop this stuff off and you could do a better evaluation. But the parts seem very high-quality.

I'm curious what the FL or f/ratio of the primary mirror is...  75" truss rods are damn long for a 8" newtonian

Perhaps they came in 6 foot lengths from the supplier, not yet cut to length.

Ah, good point, anyways 4 isn't enough with ball ends seen in the picture, so likely they'll be halved for 8 poles.
