Lost all sessions after a BSOD, trying to use an old v3 file but migration tool not working

Just to speculate what happened, I had a BSOD and either because of a change in Chrome's behavior or a file corruption, I lost my sessions 100%. I searched in Chrome>UserData>Default>IndexDB>(the long folder that belongs to the extension _eda), and my old file isn't in there. Database folder is empty or gone now, so it's not there either.

I have an old v3 backup file from 12/30/23 from when I had to upgrade PCs, and while I don't want to lose 2 years of sessions, it's better than losing everything. I tried to use the v4 migration tool and it says it "Found 881 collections and 500 history event", but every time I try to use the tool, it says there's an error. The funny thing is I have an extra small v3 file that had like 4 or 8 sessions, that works just fine with the tool. It might be that my 12/30/23 backup file is too big (98,472 KB).

I have no idea how to make this thing work with the migration tool. I believe what I did way back when was to just drop the file in Databases and it would work just fine, but now that the option doesn't exist anymore, I'm out of luck. I tried editing the file and trimming it, but this is beyond my paygrade and I don't know what I'm doing, multiple attempts and it just makes invalid files.

Is there any way I can migrate or use a v3 file that's 98,472 KB? And is there any place where my sessions could have possibly vanished to?

Can you check if there's a more detailed log in the console when the error occurs? (Chrome menu > More tools > Developer tools). You can screenshot that or right-click in the console and select "Copy console".

Also, if you want to share the file, I can troubleshoot the conversion for you or provide a v4 import file. If so, please send directly to sup...@sessionbuddy.com.

If I have to send it over to make a conversion work, I can, but if there's a way to troubleshoot, that would be more ideal

Couple things:

- how are you loading the page? the presence of twitter api calls is unexpected. could you include the address bar in your screenshot?
- try the conversion with a fresh chrome profile. click your avatar in the Chrome toolbar and try "Open guest profile". if that doesn't work, try "Add Chrome profile" instead.
- check site settings. Click the icon next to the url in the address bar, then "Site settings".

The "File editing" permission should not be "Block".

Also... possibly obvious but when the browser prompts for a file location, have you tried different folders? eg, Documents? And have you checked that you have sufficient disk space?

I'm going to guess the twitter api has to do with a chrome extension or two i might have. Multiple browsers fail with the file though. I double checked site settings and it defaults to Ask for File Editing, and I tried with guest profile, same deal unfortunately.

Which version of Chrome did you use to access the page?

If you wanna share the file please send to sup...@sessionbuddy.com and I'll try the conversion on my end.

Update- I was foolish and missed the other message you sent about using a different folder location. It might have been that I tried to save it in the same folder as the place I uploaded from, or maybe the drive affected it. Either way, using a different drive and folder solved the migration problem! I sent you the file earlier, but disregard it please!

I will disregard the file.
