As I mentioned here, the new & enhanced select/copy/paste (with extra formats) fuctionality seems to have replaced the old version of the Export  feature and its pop-up with text field and format/option select buttons.

One thing that seems to be missing is the ability to maintain the Window (now "Folders") groupings, e.g., Window 1, Window 2, etc., in the copied chunk.  I personally did find that useful, especially with...

If I remember correctly, it was possible to paste a properly formatted chunk into that text field, to create/add-in a new Session (now "Collection").  In this way, having those windows groupings formatted in, allowed that new session to reflect that same grouping.

So, two questions, I guess:
1) windows/folders groupings in copied chunks?
2) paste in properly formatted chunk to create/add-in a new session/collection?

Thanks!

I saw that Hans gave the answer to question #2 in another thread:

...plain text import didn't make the cut for the initial v4 release,
but we'll likely re-add support for plain text url and title/url imports...

I'm still puzzled about question #1, which is that the v3 "Window [1,2,3, etc.]" markers/groupings have been dropped from the copied chunk (in all formats).

Folder(Window) groupings within Collections(Sessions), versus mere flat lists of tabs/URLs, remain a central feature of SB and are still handled/maintained in v4 everywhere except in the Copy function.  Was this an intentional choice?

Clearly, the whole point of the extra copy formats is to copy out of SB and paste somewhere else.  In my own usage, losing the groupings is a big deal, though I realize it may not be so for others.

thanks!

Sorry about that.

I have no issue bringing back groupings but need to consider how that is best toggled. There are use cases for both and it's not clear whether including groupings should be the default.

Thanks for considering that!
I'm sorry to have split this between threads -- it sort of muddled things...

This note explains what this issue is really all about for me.

Very interested in seeing this functionality back as well. I tried posting a reply to a thread yesterday sharing this same sentiment but it seems to have gotten stuck in pending approval hell, so here it goes again (hopefully this time it works):

Hi Hans,

First of all, thanks for everything. Session Buddy has become a core component of many workflows that involve my browser over the years.

Something I find myself doing relatively often is reimporting lists of URLs back into Session Buddy, usually after editing them in a text editor. This is, to my understanding, no longer possible. Are there any plans to reimplement this functionality, or is reimporting from .txt deprecated entirely? I obviously don't know why this was changed, but if I had to guess I would say it has to do with people backing up their sessions to .txt instead of .json, which is much more prone to error in case users make any changes to the backup files. However, I think many other users besides me used to use this functionality on a daily basis, and would be happy to see it back. Performing a quick search, similar concerns have been expressed here, here, here and here.

I think most people that are angry at all the changes in v4 haven't taken the time to figure out what has truly changed, since many features they were used to might have changed ever slightly, which leads to frustration. Hopefully this doesn't take too much of a toll on you, I expect things to blow over with time.

Thank you for your continued hard work

I second this!

Being able to export nicely formatted markdown was very useful to me. I hope this will be on the list as soon as high demand features come back in 4.0.2. I did prefer the old export dialogue, but I can certainly live with the  new one as long as it includes session name and Windows (Folders) info. I hope it will come back soon.

I noticed this too, in particular with the "Copy as JSON".
The JSON version also used to have other information, like status, height, and ID.
