Good Time of the Day to Each of You:

Please forgive me, but what does proposed +12 -2 mean and what is the meaning of (1/3) after the Draft by (my name) mean in the 'report' provided when a proposed sequence is submitted?

Thanks in advance and best regards,

Harry Neel

Hi Harry,

The +12 -2 refers to the number of lines modified in the submission. Roughly speaking you added 12 lines and removed 2 (changed lines appear in both counts).

It might seem strange to have removed 2 in a new submission, but the Name and Keyword fields always change in a new submission.

The (1/3) means you are using 1 out of your 3 allowed drafts.

Sean.

Hello Sean,

Ok. I can clearly understand the "1/3" aspect. Several times I have seen references about someone exceeding their "3" submittal limit(s).

Would I be amiss in thinking that because I need to provide a NAME, that is a change of one (1). and because an OFFSET is provided, or suggested, that is a second change of one (1).

Not trying to be obuse, just attempting to understand, even it it means rephrasing the 'events.' I am assuming that those indicators have nothing to do with any validity of a proposed sequince. If not, is there any real benefit for using these indicators?

Harry

The main use of the +12 -2 is for editors looking to see how large of a change something is. It’s not very relevant to new sequence submissions.
