Upgrading 16.04 to Security Onion 2

I'm fairly new to Security Onion.  I saw some posts about 16.04 EOL.  We are currently  running 16.04. What is the best way to upgrade to Security Onion 2?  Could I do a distro-upgrade and then do soup or a clean install be the best approach?

Depends on your data retention stance. If you are not concerned about retaining the data, a fresh install would be best. You could do that using the iso or perform a network installation on CentOS 7 or Ubuntu 18.04 https://docs.securityonion.net/en/latest/installation.html.

The upgrade process is to upgrade OS from 16.04 to 18.04, then install SO2. The process to upgrade is here https://docs.securityonion.net/en/latest/appendix.html.
