Hi All,

Sorry as I try to catchup with a ton of stuff.

At the public library, I wear a lot of hats and not just work in Maker Space with the 3D printer.

I create and run programs, work Ref and Info desk, help patrons in the Computer Lab, do PR/Marketing and steal time to be in Maker Space.

I'm confronted with 2 challenges.

1. a Wonder Woman from Thingiverse prints wit too much support so the figure's leg breaks off when I use the snipping tool
2. a Tank 3D file alos from Thingiverse prints the barrel with stringiness.

I have no experience adjusting support settings in Cura. I also installed Ultnmaker Cura but have never used that.

I have the  Support Settings set to default at Everywhere.

It's also set to ZigZag.

There are all sorts of default Print Support numbers but I have no idea which to change them and to what numbers?

This is for a Lulzbot Taz 6 on Windows 11.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Charles.

I haven't tried it but the latest PrusaSlicer has a new kind of support they call "Organic Supports" which look promising for models with challenging support cases.

Dithermaster... Thanks for that head's up. Have you been using a Prusa 3D printer? It seems a logical next step once our Lulzbot works no more. We attend the Olrand Makefairer and most used Prusas and they were so quiet, fast, you could pause to change filament colors in the same print and printed flawlessly the 2 days of the faire.

I have a Prusa Mk 2 clone built by a friend of mine. It works great for my needs. We also have a resin printer for other projects.

I think PrusaSlicer can work on non-Prusa printers.

Which resin printer do you use?

They make gorgeous prints.

Thank you.

We had a small, cheap starter machine for a year to get our feet wet, and recently upgraded to a ELEGOO Mars 4 Max which is better in all measures from our previous one. It's my wife's. We just added a magnetic build plate for easier part removal but have not tried it yet.

Dithemaster,

Prints look impressive and $300 is a good price.

How much does any average print use (1/4 gallon?)?

Couple of years ago a gallon of resin was king of pricy but produced stunning prints.

Thank you.

Charles,

Volume of resin used is fairly close to model volume plus supports needed. There's a little bit of resin lost when pouring it back into the bottle (through a filter!) because the vat is never perfectly dry. You go through a lot of paper towels. The resin is not cheap but unless you're printing giant models it seems to last a while.

P.S. Dennis = dither (same person, same printer)

Dennis...

Resin prints are so much more detailed than PLA filament.

Thanks.
