TL/DR: BT Transponder/Receivers exist if you're just trying to BT the audio signal.
Not sure if this helps, but I purchased a (model number AD-BA100, if you want to look it up) small key-fob sized Bluetooth transponder/receiver device that adapts to RCA speaker or 3.5mm headphone jacks.
I use it as a transponder plugged into any old MP3 player, walkman, discman, etc. to cast BT to wireless earbuds. You can also use it as a receiver to play music from your phone/tablet wirelessly BT'd to any car/home stereo with a 3.5mm port or RCA jacks. There is a manual slider switch on the opposite side of the headphone jack to switch receiver/transponder.
If you're trying to control apps or the home radio controls thru the BT, this device doesn't help; It merely transmits music that is playing over Bluetooth 5.2 signal. It's great for dedicated playing, but not sure if it could be made to switch between BT quickly or not if that's what you need.
Like most BT devices, there's few buttons for multiple functions. Remembering the press (single, double, long press) functions and meaning of the flashing LED colors is mildly intuitive. So I wisely keep the instructions nearby the audio stuff.
