Seeking interview participants for renewable energy course

Hello Sector 67 community,

I have a request for anyone who has solar panels, home batteries, and/or other renewable energy technologies and who lives in Dane County.

My name is Gabriel Shapiro and I’m a 3rd year PhD student at UW-Madison in Geography and Environment & Resources. This fall semester, I will be teaching a Nelson Institute capstone course focused on renewable energy adoption pathways and interview methods. It will involve conversations with local residents about their experiences adopting and living with these technologies.

I’m looking for people who have installed one or more of these who would be interested in being contacted for an interview by one of my students. If you agree, a student will reach out to you for a short interview in the fall (2026). Please respond to me at gsha...@wisc.edu if you are willing to be interviewed, or if you have any questions. 

You do not have to be an electrification expert to participate. We want perspectives from those who have gone fully net-zero, and those who are just getting into this world by installing a small solar array or battery. We want to hear from renters (anyone doing balcony solar?) and owners, and from city dwellers as well as those in the countryside. We want to hear good and easy experiences, as well as challenges people have faced, with the goal of exploring the full range of financial, physical, social and other impacts of these technologies on people and communities over time.

I am an architect in Madison with a focus on high performance buildings, from an energy efficiency, daylighting and LEED criteria  stand point and sustainable design using onsite generation from acting site forces: seasonal thermal, passive solar, water efficiency and collection of rainwater, wind and biomass. Fifty years of practice across the board....I know several people on the east side who have fully implemented PV solar on site generation and would be happy to share their experience....
