Agreed!

Glenn, for your next H8-2020 build, you need to line the inside of the
case with pulsing RGB LED strips, that way the people whining about the
blue LED *really* have something to whine about. :D

Yeah. And a see through case! 😊

Really nice writeup. I had no idea they were doing this.

Good article, but they did get this part wrong:

Not long after the release of the H89, the company was purchased by Zenith, who in turn rebranded the H89 as the Z-89 and ended sales of the kit version. The Z-89 went through a few revisions and stayed on the market until 1985, but the Heathkit name would never again grace the front panel of a computer.

The H-89 was sold as long as the Z-89/Z-90, and technically it was the WH-89 that was rebranded as the Z-89. And the H-100 was also sold as a kit. I remembered they still had Heath tag on the computers through 386 systems. Just confirmed in a catalog, a 286 system with the Heath badge, and here is 8088 system on ebay with the Heath badge - https://www.ebay.com/itm/313717429510

Looks like the badge did change from "Heathkit" to "Heath", but kit versions from Heath continued well into the PC compatible systems.

A little disappointed they didn’t reach out to any of us to verify the facts of the story.  A true journalist would have done so.  Oh well..
