Can someone point me to the part number of the connector that fits the H10
reader/punch? I've been through the manual and schematics and I've not
been able to find it.

Thanks!

You have an H10 punch?!?!?! I've always wanted one of those! It's on my things-I-want-but-I'll-never-see-one-in-real-life list.

Unfortunately, can't help you on the connector.

The mating connector is P21 in the assembly manual, Heathkit P/N 432-704.  Unfortunately, I don't know the Molex P/N.

Good Luck!

It's the same rectangular plug used on the H11.  Look on page 19 of the Illustration booklet or p61 of the assembly manual

Yep. I've got two rolls of oiled tape for it too. I've no idea if it
works though, which is why I need that silly connector. :D

I'm not surprised I missed that, but it's the Molex part number that I
really need. Thanks!

I chopped up a couple PC motherboard power supply connectors and built my own.
Was ugly as sin, but worked fine.

We will all be interested in hearing about your results. A working H10 in the wild is now a rare beast! Maybe some video???

Oh absolutely. :) I just got a 20' container to store all my vintage
computer overflow as well as some other things, so it may be a bit.

I still haven't had any luck chasing down that Molex connector. Worst
case I have to replace the connector on the H10 with a DB25.

Here is some work I did a few years back to resurrect my H10:

bit.ly/heath_h10

In the RPi subdirectory are some photos and code I put together in order drive
the punch and reader for testing. Two .mov files show it in operation.

I sold the unit to a US collector in 2021 for $5k. As much as I enjoyed
owning it, there was no way I was about to pass on that offer.

Enjoy the cinematic splendor of an operational punch and reader!

I didn't realize that the paper tape was oiled. I had bought a few off of ebay, and due to the oil and poor packaging, the envelope itself was broken open when it was delivered to me. Even though it was poor packaging, the seller was real jerk about it, said he was going to ban me from any of his future auctions.

Very cool. Can see why these are so sought after... $5K. wow. Can't blame you for taking that offer!

I'd be hard pressed to walk away from that myself. :)

I can't be 100% sure both male and female are in this package but I think this auction includes both sides of the 24 circuit Molex connector part number 0003061241 (female) and 0003062241 (male).   According to the datasheet: https://tools.molex.com/pdm_docs/sd/003062241_sd.pdf and the pins I can see, I think at least some of those are female pins.

I also have an H10 also that needs a lot of work but I'm also missing the paper tape holder.  I wonder if that is something that could be 3d printed?

Unfortunately, shipping to me in Canada is ridiculous but I will have to bite the bullet at some point.  Going by the eBay user name, it looks like you can also get to their website directly, after a re-direct, via this link:

Hope this helps.

Your Search Fu blows my mind. THANK YOU!

I compared some of the dimensions on the drawing you linked above and
they're a match for what my H10 has.

I ordered one - when it shows up I'll check to see if it fits and I'll
report back to the list.

If it doesn't fit, there's enough information in that PDF for me to be
able to design a connector shell that will accept the standard Molex crimp
sockets. If I have to go that route, I'd be happy to make a few extra for
you. :)

The paper tape holder is made out of sheet metal and *appears* to be
completely flat. (I haven't removed mine, so it's technically possible
that the holder has a bend or something as it passes through the rear of
the enclosure.) I don't think it would be difficult at all to replicate
the parts.

Tremendously! Thanks Santo!

Here's a couple of photos of my H10 - I've not cleaned it up or taken it
apart yet.

One of those H8s may have the parallel board for the H10 in it - I don't
recall.

I've got a sick IMSAI front panel I'm currently working on, so it may be a
bit before I can get to the H10...

I also have an H10.  It needs restoration but its not horrible, so it should come to life.  It’s also missing the tape roll holder.  Like many of us, I’m hoping to run across one of those at some point.  I’m actually looking forward to getting started on this project but of course it’s a few ticks down on the list 😀

Apologies for necroing this thread, but figured someone might want the links in the future. I know I would have :)

The connector on the H10 data cable is a Molex 24 position connector. Molex part number 03-06-1241.

These are no longer available. I had some luck tracking them down from pinball equipment suppliers as they use them too. I have a couple surplus if anyone is looking.

Pins are the female connector sockets and are still available from DigiKey. https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/molex/0002061101/1385131 -- there are a couple sizes depending on wire gauge. This is what I'm using.

I don't have an H8 but I believe it's the same connector on both ends of the cable. The docs say you can plug either end into the H10 so it must be mirrored.

I don't know why some people get all upset about "necroing a thread". It keeps discussions tied together so that it is easier to search. Even more importantly, adding pertinent information like this is part of the "long tail", where we build upon conversations with those who have gone before us, knowing that what we say will help those who come after. I would hope that anyone who appreciates computers from over forty years ago will see the value in your continuation of a long, albeit glacially slow, thread.

TL;DR: Thank you for "necroposting"!

I never did get back to the H10. :)

Has anyone looked into a suitable replacement connector that's still
available?  My H10 is sleeping in a big shipping container at the moment
so I can't check, but I wonder if it would be practical to design a
snap-in filler plate that could hold a DB25 connector...

WRT swapping it out. the Molex connector has flying leads connected to the the board so you could conceivably replace it with another connector. You'd have to do both your H10 and H8 though as the cable has the same connector at each end.

Another option would be these PCB mount connector sockets. A fellow could draw up an adapter PCB that had 24 of these in the right 4*6 position and also the DB25 you mentioned. This would make the change easily reversable. https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/molex/0002067103/26263

Or just buy a 5 pack of the proper connector shells from these guys for $15 and call it good. https://www.electronicplus.com/prodSearch.asp?prod_search=03-06-1241&Submit=Search
