For those not on Facebook, here are some photos I took of those (you may know by name) while at VCFMW 2023:
Dave Runkle (aka AstroRat)
Scott Campbell
Tom & June Tate-Gans

I also had the pleasure of hanging out with Ward Christensen for awhile!

The H8 / H10 was fully operational but I wasn't present for any demonstration.

Tom and June also had a H10 interfaced to their H11.  It was unfortunate they had low AC voltage (90-104 VAC) and was unable to demo their system.  Their plan was to give attendees a paper tape punched with their name on it.

'Sorry, no videos.

Actually, as it turns out, one of the other exhibitors, Avery, let me use his line conditioner late Saturday, and then through Sunday! Nearly punched a quarter roll of tape and had quite a lot of interest in the H10 and H11A once it was up. Look for some video from LGR on it, maybe, and from some others. LGR's brother, Forgotten Machines, and many other folks shot video of it functioning. :D

Sadly, the punch stopped advancing tape at the very end, so I'll have to give it an overhaul when I get home.

I think it was Jack Rubin that swung by and gave me some pointers on the type of paper tape (oiled, not dry -- I think he might have given me three extra rolls of it early on in the show) to use as well as the trick of using lighter fluid as lubrication to use in the punch block.

Awesome! I guess we need “no smoking” signs when H10 demos are in progress 😀

No, that was me regarding oiled tape and using lighter fluid for lubrication.  Someone else gave you the tapes.

Using lighter fluid for lubrication is a trick I learned while I was in the Navy, servicing TTY's in a Comm Center.  I continued to use it when I worked at Heathkit, when servicing the H10s (and some dot matrix printers).  Lighter fluid is a highly refined oil that doesn't attract / hold dust like most other lubricants.

Ah, crud. Yes, now I remember. Apologies, Joe! Still driving home when I wrote all that and I think the show addles my brain quite a lot. :P

Thank you very much for the pointers!

I got my H10 from Jack Rubin.  Super nice guy and he was very accommodating when I met him!  It’s on my restore list once I finish building out my modern H8.

Ahhhh, that looks like a great time.  I wish I was close enough to go to that one!  Heh.
