I'll be visiting from Japan to visit family and ride this ... so much beautiful coastline in one bike ride!

Has anyone planned their hotels/overnights?

Is anyone interested in sharing hotel rooms/reservations?

357km Longview (357km from start - Day 1)
673km Lincoln City (316km from Longview - Day 2)
... or maybe Pacific City 638km since Day 1 will be very long?
913km Bandon (240km from Lincoln City or 275 from Pacific City - Day 3)
1231 Eureka (316km from Bandon - Day 4)
1463 Fort Bragg (232km from Eureka - Day 5)
1744 SF (Goal) (281km from Fort Bragg - Day 6).

Thanks for the info provided (off line) about hotels. I have now booked and prepaid at each of the intermediate locations.

If anyone wants to share bookings (I booked 2 queen beds) and split cost, let me know!

Hi Stephen

My hotel reservations (based upon information from one of the SIR riders) are as follows

1. Kelso, WA - Best Western Aladdin
2. Lincoln City, OR - Comfort Inn & Suites
3. Bandon, OR - Lighthouse Cove Inn
4. Eureka, CA - Trademark Collection by Wyndham
5. Fort Bragg, CA - Beach House Inn

I thought about making day 2 a bit shorter after a very long day 1 (stop at Tillamook or Pacific City) ... but I will probably be riding faster on Day 2 than Day 5 or 6, so thought better of it.

Also, instead of Bandon I guess Coos Bay/North Bend might be an option for a shorter day 3 (if you stopped at Tillamook), and then the following day 4 stop at Klamath, CA (too soon?), or Trinidad, CA where I see at least one or more lodgings (might as well go through to Eureka?).  Even within "greater Eureka," I thought about the Holiday Inn Express at Arcata/Eureka-Airport (costs a bit more), 25kms before downtown Eureka. ... but I decided to just go with what the other rider suggested.

As for logistics, I am still booking the rest of my trip. I am coming from Japan for a trip to visit family and will stay in the Bay Area for the week following the ride.  I will be traveling with my bike in a box to various places. I plan to show up in Seattle on the 6th or maybe 5th, build up the (S and S couplered) bike, put my luggage in the bike container (which is the S and S-sized "suitcase" box) and ship it UPS to a friend in San Francisco (who I need to ask once I confirm my travel dates ... hope he will be there.)  I hope it will be there when I arrive!  If I can figure it out, I may plan the trip so that I fly from the Bay Area to Seattle on the 6th, and already deposit as much luggage as I can there.  The original plan was that my wife would be on sabbatical in the Bay Area from late August to early February next year ... but for various reasons she only submitted her visa application last week so I don't expect her to arrive and have housing by the end of my ride.

I don't know if Seattle based riders plan to return via Amtrak ... I guess that might be an option for someone who is returning to Seattle with bike? But others will know better than I do.

As for a "rider only" message group, I guess if the Facebook group were turned into one that requires the Admin to approve (private group?) that might do it.  I have no idea how many riders there are and, depending on that, the answer may vary. ... I guess you should direct your inquiry to Rose Cox (who sent the info about the event jerseys etc. and solicited feedback)?

Best, David

Hello David, et al.
I'm glad you reached out about this ride. I've been wanting to touch base with riders and start hearing about other's logistics.

I'm on a tandem with my wife, so I'm not a good candidate for splitting a room, but it's nice to know where others are planning on stopping each day. We haven't locked anything down yet, but are starting the process.

A big question I have is how others are handling the start-finish point-to-point logistics. Flying? Train? Family/Friend transportation? We'll be driving west from SLC, UT. Doing anything with a tandem is tricky (no couplers). Just curious.

I don't know if SIR has a mechanism to create a 'registered riders' group chat, or if we could do one on our own... prior to David reaching out, I haven't heard much :-)

Thanks all... looking forward to riding with y'all.

We will get a group email group out soon.

If have additional questions check out the SIR website - there is a tab with SEA-SFO information - or feel free to reach out to me.

Wow, David! That is quite the logistical challenge. Tougher than ours :-) Thanks for the details. I guess we're randonneurs and we'll figure it out!
