Masks for smoke on rides

Smoke has various sized soot particles and also toxic volatile organic chemicals. 
The dust mask (like healthcare workers wear) only protects you from inhaling large dust/soot particles.
N95 masks filter smaller particles  but also make breathing fast & deep more problematic.
The only masks that blocks the chemicals from entering your lungs are properly fitted APR (air purifying respirators) that have charcoal cartridges to adsorb the chemicals.
If there is a chance that you will be riding thru smokey areas, you might want to carry a dust mask & N95 with you.
