Hello fellow Go enthusiasts,
This issue of the Weakly Kibitzer spotlights some of the stronger players
who come through the Go Center, and how they "give back" to the Go
community. We have some opportunities for you to learn from strong
players in the next few weeks.
Jonathan Cheng, SDK
Wednesdays, 6pm
The (newly renamed) Single-Digit Kyu class continues tomorrow,
6pm!
Jonathan Cheng, rated 7 dan on Tygem, will play
simuls with all challengers! Email
him
at sls1...@gmail.com if you
plan to come, so he knows how much sushi to order. (I'm kidding --
there's no sushi. It's so he knows what to expect.)
Ono Shingo, Japanese strong
amateur, Feb. 29 - Mar. 3
While he's here, Mr. Ono has generously offered to play
simuls, with up to 4 players at a time (one session
Saturday Feb. 29, and another session Tuesday March 3). He also will
be competing in the
monthly AGA ratings tournament on
March 1, which is an outstanding opportunity for a challenging game!
Further, he's interested in
getting together with other
strong players. If you're interested, please email
prog...@SeattleGo.org and
I'll pass it along to Chris and Mr. Ono.
Mr. Daiki Komatsu, 3P, Mar. 9 -
Mar. 13
Japanese 3 Dan pro, Mr. Daiki Komatsu, will visit
Seattle Go Center the second week of March. The Go Center is very
lucky to have such support from the Nihon Ki-in! Here's what's
tentatively scheduled -- watch for updates.
Mon. March 9 - 6:30pm
- Double Digit Kyu lecture!
Tue. March 10 - 2:30pm
- Simuls!
Tue. March 10 - 6:30pm
- More simuls!
Wed. March 11 - 6:00pm
- Single Digit Kyu lecture!
Self-Paired rated
games
With all this coaching, you'll undoubtedly be getting stronger.
You don't have to wait for the monthly tournaments to play a rated
game! You and your opponent at the Go Center can submit your game for
ratings, if it meets all of these conditions:
- Both players, before starting, agree to submit the game for
ratings;
- Both players have current
membership in the AGA;
- Handicap is 9 stones or less;
- Time limits are at minimum:
- 30 minutes per player + byo yomi / overtime, or
- 45 minutes per player absolute / sudden death
- Time limits can be longer than these -- in fact, there's no maximum
time limit.
There are self-paired reporting slips on the reception table.
Fill it out before you start your match. At the end of your match,
circle the winning player's name, and both players initial the slip.
Give the slip to the Day Manager on duty, or put it in the glass jar on the
table near the elevator. That's all there is to it!
See you soon at the Go Center,
