Hello, fellow Go enthusiasts,

I think most of you know Dennis Wheeler, who has been a reliable and dedicated Seattle Go Center volunteer for over ten years. For a long time, he helped with, then spearheaded, the Go Center's outreach effort at Uwajimaya. And for years, he has been the Saturday manager at the Go Center. On top of that, he has helped with outreach at several of the school and cultural festivals where the Go Center has taught new players.

In addition to his work for the Go Center, Dennis has been a dedicated volunteer for the American Go Association and the American Go E-Journal. He has worked as game recorder and transmitter at several U.S. Go Congresses, often on Board 1.

So it is with mixed emotions that I announce this Saturday's luncheon in Dennis' honor. He is stepping back from some of his Go activities to spend more time with his family, and because his chemotherapy treatments have been exhausting. He is not completely retiring from the Go Center -- not yet, at least. We expect he'll still be the Saturday manager, hosting and teaching, one or two Saturdays a month.

My emotions are mixed -- sadness that Dennis has to go through chemo, plus relief that he had some advance warning about it, and pride at Dennis' contributions to American Go, and pleasure that I've known him, because he's really a great guy to spend time with.

So please, join us at the Go Center this Saturday, and help celebrate Dennis.
