Hi,

Is SDRTrunk compatible with the Airspy HF+ Discovery?

Reason I ask is it's not showing up in Tuners.  SDRTrunk recognized my RTL-SDR and my Airspy HF+ Discovery is working with SDRSharp.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

The HF+ Discovery is not supported yet.  I just purchased one, so I'll add support once I get it.

Thank you for the response...
Curious... What's the amount of effort required to add support for a new radio?

For the Airspy Discovery it's probably minimal effort.  For other radios it can be a couple days of effort.  Adding support for sdrplay is a work in progress that's already been a couple days of effort and it's not complete yet.

Very exciting! Not sure if you are tying into the SDRUno software  at all for the RSP devices, but I just found out at Hamvention that SDRPlay will be coming out with new software called SDRconnect. It is cross platform with Win/iOS/Linux and is kind of a whole re-write of the uno software.

In the meantime I'll keep using this awesome software with my two RTL-SDRs... now if only I could get MiniCircuits to send me the power splitter!!!

I had originally not paid much (or any) attention to the HF+ Discovery because of the name; I have almost zero interest in HF, and the VHF support looked tacked on.

After a closer look, I have hope that the focus on dynamic range and the extra 2 bits (14 vs. 12) will help with my near-far & varying noise floor issues on VHF.

That is, I have local transmissions that are in the bands and sub-bands of interest, and when those local transmitters key up, I lose about 500-600 KHz of the surrounding bandwidth if not more.

Set the gain suitable for the local transmissions, you say. Then the system goes deaf and I hear next to nothing. AGC? Ha - with power squelch, that's a non-starter. So while getting 10 Mhz of simultaneous coverage is great in so many ways, the reality is that there are pitfalls, and the lack of dynamic range is one of them; when couple with setting the gain across the entire spectrum all at once, you can start to imagine the problems that crop up.

While I'd like for better dynamic range on 700/800, I really need it on VHF. Here's to hoping that 6 more dB and oversampling/decimation on the SDR can bring some relief.

Is this for conventional monitoring?

I’m not understanding why so many are clamoring for SDRtrunk to monitor conventional transmissions lately.

SDRsharp paired with an AirSpy R2 is absolutely unbeatable on VHF, so I assume the same holds true for the AirSpy HF+ based on the boasts of the developer holding up in actual use. I use the combination I mentioned to monitor railroads and after making only one change (from SDRconsole to SDRsharp) I started hearing stuff I’d never heard before. It has only gotten better in recent releases of SDRsharp.

Hope this helps.

That much is quite clear.

Unfortunately the Airspy Discovery has turned out to be something of a dud at VHF. I'm not sure what prog was thinking but this is not a good effort at VHF.
