Use this thread to coordinate and share hotel rooms, transportation etc.

Let me take this opportunity to remind you that there's a 200k this Saturday (Crown City 200k) that would be a very good training ride for the Mission 600k.

This is my first 600k. Is the planned support at the overnight control similar to what was offered at the recent Santiago 400k? Will there be hot food? Is the bag-drop still planned?

If one has ambitions of doing PBP one day, would people recommended booking a room for this overnight or to just grab a nap on the floor somewhere?

Sorry if any questions are a bit basic, all advice and information is welcomed.

Hi everyone.

I'm in LA so I'll be taking the 3pm Surfliner up to Guadalupe on Friday and biking over to Santa Maria. Does anyone want to split a hotel room at the overnight control in Rosemead?  I'm also taking the train back to LA from SD, hopefully on the 9pm Sunday night.  If anyone has a couch near a SD train station in case I dont make that 9pm Sunday night train I'd be grateful!

Aliya, this is my first 600k too but I'm thinking a shower and a few hours sleep will be worth it in Rosemead.

Thanks!

I don't know what Wei has planned at the overnight control. In any case, there are plenty of food options not far from the control.

For a first 600k, with so many new challenges to face, I would not add more and opt for a bed and shower. At PBP, some contrôles offer (rustic) sleeping accommodations, so you would not be far from PBP conditions.

I second Aliya's question and hope/assume that we can leave a drop bag at the starting control, access it at the overnight control, and recover it at the finish control. Will you please confirm if there will be a drop bag, service?

Wei sent an email detailing the drop bag logistics. I duplicate it here in case some of you missed it.

There have been missives sent asking about drop bag logistics and other sundry topics about the Missions 600k planning. I’ll endeavor to answer some of the questions in this announcement 1 of several.

Start
We’ll open the control at 5:00am Saturday at the Best Western so that you can check in your bag. Note the work “bag”. NOT suitcase, NOT luggage. A sport bag or back pack that has zippers to secure the content. No plastic or paper shopping bags no matter how you tie or wrap it up. 1 bag per rider.

Since many will have your Friday clothing packed, I’ll allow for some added weight. But if heavy by whatever is my capricious definition, your bag will be left in the van for you to retrieve at the overnight control and finish control.

Take care of your drop bag check in early rather than late. We will cease all check in by 5:55am to send off riders at exactly 6:00am. You will need to wait until 6:01am to check in your bag. So please take care of check in rather than late.

Bag Transport
Lynn and I will drive your drop bags to the overnight control at the Rosemead Quality Inn for pick up.

Overnight Control Pick Up
Your bags will be ready for pick up at the conference room in the hotel next to the check in desk. When you are ready to leave for the final day, bring your bags back to the conference room.

We will serve food and cold beverages (water, coffee, at the control: likely a meat soup and vegan soup with rice, potatoes, pasta as starch. We have left over vegan ramen from the 400k. If we can set up a microwave, likely pre-made breakfast burritos.

Finish Control
Your drop bags will be driven to the finish control for pick up. If you are planning to do a college all nighter and finish before 2:00pm on Sunday, you will need to wait for when we get back to San Diego after cleanup of the overnight control. We will NOT be making any special accommodations to our schedule if you want to be fast.

Finish control will likely have Costco pizzas and beverages. There are nearly 50 riders. When the finish control workers check you in and verify your EPP, please don’t linger as we may not have space for post brevet socializing.

Finish Accommodations
The finish control is on Hotel Circle South. There is a wide variety of places to book a room besides the Best Western.

Post-Brevet Transport to LA
The finish control is about 1-2 miles to the Old Town Amtrak station. If you finish before the last train, you can catch the Surfliner back home.

Personal Support
If you are lucky enough to have a loved one or dear friend who will provide personal support during the brevet, please note the following:

1) Must let me know before the start. If you fail to do so, I have the authority to DNF you.

2) Your support crew may ONLY meet you and render support at a designated control along the route. If reported that your crew helped you between controls, I will have the authority to DNF you.

If you abandon, you will need to make arrangements to rendezvous with your drop bag at the overnight or finish control.

If anyone is interested in a car (w/bike) ride up to Santa Maria leaving San Diego 10:00 AM
I have rented a full-size pick up with crew cab.
Right now it is just me and dorina so we can accommodate two more riders & bicycles.
