Hi Paul,
thanks for the feedback — OK, that helps narrow it down.
If the error persists after installing vc_redist.x64.exe and rebooting, then one of the following is very likely the case:
Also install the x86 runtime (important)
Even on Windows 11 64-bit, some applications still require the 32-bit (x86) Visual C++ runtime.
Please also install:
*
vc_redist.x86.exe
from the same Microsoft page:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist
After installing both x64 and x86, reboot again and try SDC.
________________________________
Verify that MSVCP140.dll is actually present
Check if this file exists:
C:\Windows\System32\MSVCP140.dll
(and optionally also)
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\MSVCP140.dll
If it’s missing in both locations, the runtime is not properly installed.
________________________________
Check Windows Defender / SmartScreen
On a new Windows 11 system, Defender or SmartScreen may silently interfere.
Please check:
*
Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history
*
Also verify that SmartScreen is not blocking the executable on first run
If needed, temporarily disable SmartScreen just to test, or add SDC to exclusions.
________________________________
Final check
If possible, please confirm:
*
Windows 11 version (Home / Pro)
*
Is this a brand-new PC with a clean Windows install?
At this point, this is almost certainly a runtime / Windows security issue, not an SDC-specific problem.
Let me know what you find after installing the x86 runtime — that step usually resolves exactly this scenario.
73,
Simon

This is a classic Windows 10/11 issue, and fortunately the fix is straightforward 👍
The error means that the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime required by SDC is missing.
Solution (tested and works)
On the new Windows 11 PC, please do the following:
1.
Download Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (x64)
Official Microsoft link:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist
2.
Install:
*
vc_redist.x64.exe
3.
After installation:
*
Reboot the PC
*
Then start (or reinstall) SDC
This will install the missing MSVCP140.dll (and related runtime libraries).
________________________________
Why this happens
*
A fresh Windows 11 installation often does not include the VC++ runtime
*
Applications built with newer Visual Studio versions depend on it
*
Reinstalling SDC alone will not help until the runtime is installed

Subject: New Install Issues?
Have a new Win 11 64 PC and attempted a new install of SDC, got error msg
" System error- the code execution cannot proceed because MSVCP140.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem"
I uninstalled and tried a 2nd install and got the same error msg.
Suggestions on how to fix?
