In the summary of this report behavioral change is mentioned as an underdeveloped resource. I have not read the report yet; however, we should take notice. Also, I like this report tout a positive message; however, it promotes economic growth(as to be expected from OECD).

View this email online | Unsubscribe         Reaching net zero is still possible but requires urgent and ambitious action     A new report launched yesterday summarises key insights from the second phase of the OECD’s Horizontal Project “Net Zero+”. The report offers governments insights and recommendations to support national and international efforts to meet the climate challenge, including on the design of coherent policy packages, innovative governance, accelerated innovation, citizen engagement, and financing aligned with the goals of the Paris Agreement.   Scroll down to discover the report’s five main takeaways:   1. Net zero is still within reach, but only with smarter, more ambitious policies The tools for net zero exist, but change must accelerate. Well-designed policy packages can drive innovation and reduce emissions, but governments also need to reform to enable faster, systemic change.   2. Bringing people on board is essential for a successful net-zero transition Public support is vital. Citizen engagement can generate public support and enhance policy effectiveness. Fair, inclusive policies build trust and ensure no one is left behind. Education can empower people to shape climate action and acquire the skills needed for the net-zero economy.   3. Markets matter: Trade, finance and investment Trade and investment can speed up the net-zero transition, but only if markets stay open, fair and climate-aligned. Governments must balance innovation and decarbonisation with fair competition. Finance plays a key role, with climate goals needing to guide investment across the economy.   4. Adaptation needs urgent attention and investment   Mitigation is vital, but so is adapting to unavoidable climate impacts. This means scaling up investment in resilient infrastructure, nature-based solutions and locally tailored strategies, supported by clearer financing frameworks.   5. Dear Philip,

Even if achieving net zero were possible, it is not possible for 30-40 years, is my bet. That would allow climate change to reach unbearable levels, such that large fractions of the earth's population would be subject to death and/or starvation. This is a key reason why decreasing the rate of population growth may be even more important than decreasing consumption per person. Remember, the world's population is growing at about 80 million per year (1%), which is about the population of the US every four years!

Why do we keep looking for magic bullets?  Net Zero is NOT going to "save us..." But that does not mean it cannot help us.
