Ideas to keep staff engaged in the garden

Hello everyone, 

I am helping out with a training on gardening at early care sites. I have gotten many questions from the educators on how to keep their fellow educators and staff engaged in the garden (in non-COVID times). 

In what ways do you keep your fellow educators or staff interested in helping out and participating in the garden? I have some ideas but would love to hear from the group!

I am also interested. Right now, I send out emails to staff asking for help. We use Sign-up Genius for people to sign up to help water over the summer.  We announce "Garden Parties" thaaret everyone is invited to. We send out lesson plans for using the garden for science lessons as well.

We have started a 4-H club at McArthur HS in Hollywood FL. We are having a “Summer of Growing” with 20 members, all from the AgScience program run by Vincent Newman. our 4-H agent put together a project book and we have a permaculture specialist that together with a few others are going to host a weekly zoom session. We have given them all 4-5 cuttings or seeds, pots and soil so they can grow at home. We plan to have weekly discussion about composting, what they are growing, uses, etc. to keep them engaged and continue to develop their green thumbs so that when we resume at some point they will be at a higher level of understanding and appreciation of plants and growing food and fiber in our climate. We are expecting them to document this project with photos and measurements and put together a final presentation which will be judged at the next county fair.

Greetings from Global Gardens, 

We are exploring ways to divide the day into two or three set blocks of time to allow families back into their space and having our educators on site to help model good spacing and other Covid Measures. This is our first week with small groups but the state numbers are not looking good. We proceed with caution, hope and science!
