Hi everyone!

Slow Food USA, Green Umbrella, and Whole Kids collaborated on writing the Local School Wellness Policy Toolkit. This toolkit lays out a roadmap to creating a new wellness policy or reassessing an existing one, with steps from creating a well-rounded wellness committee to engaging with a district to adopt it.

Wellness policies are a great avenue to make school gardens a long-term priority for schools or districts. Have you successfully advocated for school gardens to be included in wellness policies? What did that process look like? What language did you use within the policy?

Feel free to share links or attachments to your wellness policies for other folks to refer to!

In community,

In my district Farm to School and school gardens are included in the written policy under Nutrition Education. I also help facilitate the Wellness Committee. I actively advocated for this language when we were rewriting our policy three years ago. Our policy can be found here: https://www.schenectadyschools.org/page/wellness-policy
