Product Recommendations Please

Happy New Year Gardeneers!

We're setting up some new sites and need your help with two critical products. Please let me know what you recommend and/or what didn't work for your school garden.

1) What's Your Go-To Tomato Cage?
How do you support your productive tomato plants so they can carry an abundance of fruit bursting with umami and heirloom flavor?
• Do you prefer tall spiral cages, heavy-duty metal cages or something you build yourself?
• Plastic coating -- yay or nay?
• Tips for keeping them steadfast through windy storms?

2) Best Wheeled Hose Reel for a 50-Foot Hose?
How can we haul our garden hose across campus in comfort and style?

Bonus content:
I learned that there are all kinds of hose reels — from simple hand-crank reels to full-on carts with non-pnuematic tires and storage. You can check some out in this video called Best Hose Reels 2025.

For tomatoes, the only way to go is the Florida weave! Cages are so difficult to manage and don’t grow with the plants.
