Cracking tiller

Hello all,

I've got a crack forming in my tiller, fore and aft from the tiller extension hole.  It's still small(ish), extending maybe two inches in each direction from the hole.  It only shows on the top surface, I don't know how deep it is.

Does anyone have a standard tiller in good condition I could purchase?  (We have an emergency tiller, but I'm keeping that for emergencies).  Or know of where I could get one?

I could also just repair it - I was thinking of just sanding it down, filling it as best I can with epoxy, and then drilling it out and reinstalling the metal tiller extension socket. 

Has this happened to anyone else?  Does this repair plan make sense, or are there better ways of handling this?

I had a similar problem near the base. Wrapped it with carbon fiber cloth. Solid, looks cool and adds a half a knot.

Sand it. Coat in clear epoxy, then varnish. Epoxy will penetrate the wood and fill any cracks
