If either of the boats come with a trailer, I wouldn’t worry too much about where a boat is located.
Thru U-Ship.com I got Gusto and her trailer transported to So Cal from East TN for under $2,700.00 and that included $250 for insurance on boat and trailer in event of travel damage or loss.
It would have cost me more than $3500 to fly there, rent a truck, and tow it home myself. And, I don’t think I could tolerate 2500 miles towing at under 65 mph.
And remember that asking price is only a starting point for any boat, and few, if any, actually sell for the asking price.
But, you really should make a trip to see it for yourself before you commit and pay anything. Pictures are not always truly representative of “Current Condition”.

Personally, I’d love to see more SC27s in SoCal. I might even start racing if we could get enough sc27’s involved down here.
Not quite ready to commit to every Wednesday racing, but I’d consider Catalina series weekend racing.
Crewed on a Cal25 for almost 20 years in Long Beach, and we always had a fleet start.
My cal25 team just won cal25 nationals in Anapolis, MD.
They towed the boat both ways. They did it with hull #1 after three years of serious restoration. They sold their used Cal25 in Detroit three years ago.
Look it up. One Time was the original boat, new boat hull #1 is one time again.

Tim,
That’s great news.
Do you keep Witchcraft in a slip, mooring, or on a trailer? The only places I know of to launch SC27’s in So Cal are KingsHarbor sling ($40 per launch) and the free Long Beach City cable hoist at the Boy Scout site.
Gusto is almost ready to be dropped in Saltwater for the first time ever since built. (bottom paint with hard trailer-able ablative, Trailer surge brake repair, and a quick light harness on the trailer are all we really need to get ready for salt water.
Covid seriously delayed the complicated Lost Title transfers for Gusto and her trailer, and then when DMV finally opened up in June, they made multiple mistakes on the title transfer, so I have one more trip with paperwork to DMV to get Gusto Registered, and I have brake and lighting repairs to make on the trailer needed to pass DMV trailer inspection so a trailer that was built before serial or Vin numbers were stamped on trailers to get the trailer registered.
I wish I could commit to Wednesday racing weekly, but I’m so busy at work that I don’t even accrue Vacation time anymore. Then, my only solid crew guy (15 yr old son has full serious soccer tourneys that kill most weekends. If I take more than just a Friday or Monday off, I get so far behind that others on my work team want to lynch me.
For now, and at least the next six months, the best I can hope for is a 4 day weekend. With a 4 day weekend, we might be able to get Gusto in the water on Friday, get the mast and rigging up, and be ready for a Saturday morning Catalina Series Race. Then when we get home late Sunday, we either find a vacant slip to hang out on for a couple of weeks or we de-mast, put Gusto on her trailer, and go home on on Monday.
The reality is that I might have the bottom and trailer ready for the beginning of the 2022 Catalina series in February-ish.
I seriously doubt that we would be competitive racers. My crew would be my 15 year old son and two of his mates that have helped us swab and polish the boat multiple times while sitting on the trailer in our backyard. My son has raced on Cal 25s a couple of times, but I don’t think I could convince him or his buddies to be frozen rail meat for a 6 hour passage when all they really want to do is troll for albacore and listen to their music.
And then, there’s the music situation. Not sure how we’d regulate who gets control of the jukebox. I might jump ship and try to swim home mid channel if I have to listen to too much of my son’s music.
And then there’s the danger of over 65 container ships anchored and waiting for offload in LA, San Pedro, and Long Beach, and the barges that are being towed in low and slow with ½ mile cables partially submerged to dodge.
Heading to Catalina from Long Beach is an obstacle course now.
Let’s keep in touch and eventually I will be seriously into Catalina Series racing.
I haven’t had a good Isthmus Buffalo Milk in three years, and I’m well over due.

We have her in the water at Catalina Anchorage, right across the street from my club, SCCYC, which has a brand new 3 ton hoist. Going to be hauling out this winter to install the paddlewheel to make all the shiny new instruments work properly. We’ve been doing Wed nights this summer, getting the boat and crew sorted, probably doing some little stuff next month, you want to come up sometime and go for a daysail/buoy race let me know.
