Just curious if anyone has any information on why the rating for a Sc27 is 138 down here while it's 141 everywhere else.

Rating is 138 in Santa Barbara and I think throughout SoCal.  Over lots of beer can races on Wednesdays we are more than competitive with boats that rate down to say 125.  We struggle with a J-80 at 120, with them winning around 90% of the time. With 156 I think we would win every time, and at 141 it gets closer.

The rating at Lake Tahoe is bumped down from 141 to 138 here compared to N. CA.  Our fleet is not happy this rating.  Can anyone else shed some light on our rating?

Tahoe Discrpency:
SC 27 -      Tahoe 138 and N.CA 141
Exp 27 -    Tahoe 132 and N.CA  129 (1/2 the time alottment from 12 down to 6)
Moore 24  Tahoe 156 and N.CA 150  (twice the time given up from 9 up to 18)

For buoy racing this is inequitable in our biased opinion.  The E's and M's tack and get up to speed quicker, point higher with their fractional rig, and plane sooner down wind.  The M does particularly well in light and heavy air and the express reaches way better than us too.

I would love to see someone in So. CA. appeal the rating and get our rating up higher.

SC 27 Monterey Bay PHRF rating is 141. Competitive with the other ULDB’s with that rating including Exp 27 at 135, but not the J-70 or J-80 which rate 117 and 120.
