Considerations to choose DB.

After working with Oracle DB knowing the positive points of Oracle DB I would always give a + to Oracle but licensing cost is what made me do a research to find if My SQL would address our needs or do we really need to go for Oracle?

Oracle cost:

Standard edition:

License Cost: 17.5 K USD = 10,61,200 INR

Support Cost:  3850   USD = 233464    INR (Per year)

I did a bit of research and found most of our needs can be addressed by My SQL. Though Oracle gives more features that would be good to have that comes with high price tag.

I am currently doing a research on different hosting vs in house implementation models. Would send a comparison. We need to brainstorm and decide at this point what is the model we should go for  as it would be difficult to change the architecture later.

Our needs very well can be addressed by MySQL. In-fact we can think of other nosql DBs for read only operations but I don' think any hosting company provides a good, cheap readymade solutions. Amazon Dynamo, Amazon RDS or Google cloud DB all are costly and based on usage. Further it is not DB only we have to think of better deployment strategies. We can discuss that in today's meeting.

Further, deployment might be secondary but we need robust set of features to be developed. All our features/functionality is half baked.
