Earth has just entered a very fast moving solar wind stream from a large gaping coronal hole. The solar wind stream is very broad and we will be inside the stream for many days, probably into next week.
What this means to us is that propagation on all bands, especially 20 meters and above, will be dimenished. For those of you who check into the SATERN International 20 meter SSB net, you could do the service a favor by listening and passing relays on to the NCO on duty.
The same could be said for the regional nets on 40 and 80 meters as well. The lower bands are not affected nearly as much as the upper bands but there likely will be some strange propagation effects. Try to listen and help the NCS as much as needed.
Given the NOAA/SWPC predictions, we will likely see poor conditions until next weekend. Geomagnetic storms are likely to continue for that period of time as well.
If you are a VHF/UHF fan, you may want to monitor the DX Clusters for auroral openings which are common during periods like this. Local groups will find this a good opportunity for 6 meters and above when the lower bands fade.
We will continue to monitor the situation while active strong and severe weather is present across much of the U.S.
Don't forget we are approaching hurricane season in about 10 weeks. The time to prepare is now.
