How about a Discovery Dish Feed on a 1.5m Solar Cooker ?

That will  exceed the performance of your current choice & No Soldering !

Has anyone done The Discovery Dish Feed on a solar cooker?  

I’ve seen the solar cooker with a “cantenna”.

As I am quite new to this,  the “scope in a box” has all of the correct parts.  I have seen the Youtube

Video of someone putting window screening on the side of the antenna to reduce the noise.

The solar cooker dish will narrow the beam width , but both having the same f/D ratio will have similar S/N performance.

Another Idea : Purchase the Discovery Dish & Feed, try it, and consider this ( not too difficult )  upgrade  mod

The narrow side of the SB WiFi dish is ( without extending ) not optimal for radio astronomy.

The DiscoDish Feed locates the LNA at the Dipole & that is a  Plus for performance.

Lots of choices.............................

Adding screening over the slots in the WiFi grid helps block ground noise pickup also.

Fifty-five years of optical astronomy has taught me that the learning process(for beginners) is more important than having the largest possible scope.

I'll start off with the scope-in-a-box, put some window screening on it, and use that simple configuration to learn as much as I can about the 21cm line.

In a few years, I will try to move up to a 2 meter diameter scope.
