Howdy folks,
Don't know if this is a "thing" or not, but I wanted to put out a lesson's learned for your consideration:
I'm running the Nooelec NESDR SMArt v5 SDR on my Raspberry Pi, using Ted's ezRA software, plugged into a USB 3.0 port. After about 2 weeks of continuous use, I noticed the SDR would stop responding and the software would just sit. I'd pull the files and they'd be mostly empty.
I thought at first this might be a problem with the specific socket I used so I switched to a different socket, still USB 3.0, and it started back up. However, a few days later it would error out again. Switched back to the other USB 3.0 socket and it started again.
Kept chasing this issue, tried various power supplies, securing the USB port better, yadda yadda. Eventually I moved it to a USB 2.0 port and it's been running happily along for more than 2 months without issue.
I'm still not sure what's causing the response issues on USB 3.0, especially since it's only powering the SDR, no Bias Tee or anything like that. Just thought I'd put that into the aether in case someone else runs into issues.
Thanks,
