Hello!
I am a physics student and a member of a local observatory in Germany. We regularly open our observatory to the public as a form of science communication and to share our enthusiasm for astronomy.
Now I thought it would be nice to build my own radio telescope. This makes it possible to present a completely different kind of astronomy. As a bonus, we don't need a clear sky for an observation.
I have the opportunity to get a 1-meter satellite dish for free. Initially, I just wanted to connect it to a satellite finder and receive a signal from the sun and satellites. Later, I want to upgrade the setup with an LNA and an RTL-SDR to capture the 21cm line.
I am very new to this topic and couldn't find much information.
Is this a realistic setup? Do I need to consider anything else?
I am grateful for every opinion and every input!
